The
Legend of Mount Tangkuban Perahu
Long time ago in West Java, there
lived a woman named Dayang Sumbi. She had son named Sangkuriang. One day,
Sangkuriang was hunting
in the forest and then he killed Tumang. When Dayang Sumbi knew that
Sangkuriang killed Tumang, she hit Sangkuriang’s head with a big spoon and expelled him. Many years
later, Sangkuriang , who became a strong and handsome boy,wandered and found an
old house in the forest. Sangkuriang came closer to the house and there was an
old beautiful woman,the woman was Dayang Sumbi. That was a love at the first
sight, Sangkuriang fell in love with Dayang Sumbi and forced her to marry him.
Dayang Sumbi agreed to marry him
but Sangkuriang had to build a vast
boat, just in one night.At night, Sangkuriang called his friends, ghosts and
fairies to help him. Feared that the boat can be completed in one night, Dayang Sumbi asked other women
in her village to help her. Then the women punched the grains with grain puncher to make noise which disturbed the ghosts and fairies.
The morning came before
Sangkuriang completed the boat. Unfortunately the fairies and the ghosts also
left Sangkuriang alone,he could not complete his job. Finally ,Sangkuriang got
very angry and kicked away the boat to the downside, which finally turned into
a mountain, called Tangkuban Parahu.

Teaching Process
Pre-Activity
-Teacher
comes to class and greet the students.
-Teacher asks
the students to make a circle
“Who is The Messenger?”
-Teacher asks
the students to close their eyes.
-Teacher
gives a paper to one student,there is a
sentence on that paper “Mount Tangkuban Perahu is a story about a man who wants
to marry with his mother”
-Teacher
touches a student,the student who is touched has to find who is the messenger
by asking the students “What do you know about Mount Tangkuban Perahu?” until
he finds the messenger.
-The
students who don’t hold the paper say” No , I don’t know, you have to look for
others”(If until 5 min the student can not guess who is the messenger ,the
messenger has to admit and read the sentence.
-Teacher
tells the students that today we will learn about Mount Tangkuban Perahu story.
Main Activity
-Teacher teaches the students the
new vocabularies in the text with showing pictures and demonstration.
a)Demonstration for “vast,expelled
and hunting”
b)Showing pictures for “boat,grains,
and grain puncher”.
-Teacher shows the text by using
Power Point Presentation.
Information
Gap Activity
-Students have to work in pair.
-Teacher asks the students to find
out the detail of the story but they have to ask this question to their pairs,1st
student asks the question and 2nd(turn taking) student answer the
question.The questions are:
1st Students :Who is Sangkuriang’s mother?(2nd
students answer)
2nd Students :Who is
Sangkuriang’s father?(1st students answer)
1st Students :Why his mother expel Sangkuriang?( 2nd students answer)
2nd Students :What
should Sangkuriang do to marry with Dayang Sumbi?(1st students
answer)
1st students :Why was Sangkuriang angry?(2nd
students answer)
-After that some pairs have to
share their answer.
-Students are asked to make groups
which consist of 5 people in one group.
-Teacher gives one picture for
each group.
The pictures:
-Each group should share what is
the picture tell us about.

-Each group should perform Mount
Tangkuban Perahu drama.(max time for drama for each group 10 min)

-Teacher
asks the students to back on their seats.

Activity
-Teacher asks 2 students to retell
the story of Mount Tangkuban Perahu in brief.
“Fly
Like A Bird”
-Teacher asks the students to
stand up and close their eyes, catch a breath and imagine that they are a bird
,fly like a bird and fell the freedom .
-Teacher ends the class.
